Gold Commemorative Coin

There is only one day left on the bidding on Ebay for a gold commemeorative coin that we have listed.

It is a full troy ounce of gold and it is part of the American Arts Commemorative Series that was minted by the US mint in 1980.

It features the American Artist, Grant Wood.

Don’t recognize his name?

Bet you know one of his most popular paintings though.

It is titled American Gothic.

It is the painting of an old farmer and his wife standing in front of their barn, and he is holding a pitchfork.

The likeness of that painting is featured on the back of this medal.

The spot value for gold has been on the rise, but this is a collectible just for the rareness of the coin itself.

In Need of Rain

It has been one really dry summer here in the Northeast.

In all the years I have lived in my home, I have never seen the backyard so brown.

Oh, there have been dry spells when the grass dries up but turns back to green once the rain comes.

Usually that’s during the hottest month of July.

But now, the grass is actually crunching under our feet as we walk on it - I don’t see how it will turn back to green before the fall weather starts moving in and turning everything brown too.

We have our own well for water, but watering the lawn to keep it green would only drain it.

And with no rain to fill it back up, that wouldn’t be a good thing.

They say we are supposed to get over 2 inches of rain over the next two days.

It was supposed to start last night.

So far, no rain.

My fingers are crossed that it arrives soon!

Deals for School

We have been seeing it on the TV commercials and in the fliers of the newspapers.

School is right around the corner and all the deals on school supplies have begun.

This is the first year I won’t have to be purchasing all these things.

My youngest will be in his first year of college, and he doesn’t need all the bells and whistles that regular school requires.

He’s on the lookout for a certain kind of binder - one to keep him organized.

He hasn’t liked what I have pointed out yet, so he must have something quite elaborate in mind.

Kind of anxious to see what he picks out - it will be interesting if anything.

Full Buck Moon

There is a beautiful full moon out tonight.

The name of the moon for this month is The Full Buck Moon.

It is so named because the antlers of the deer are just beginning to push through the deer’s forehead at this time.

We just got back from watching it rise over the lake - most beautiful!

Rainy Afternoon

Each late afternoon has been spent at the lake since it has been so hot.

We finally got some much needed rain, not a lot, but enough to water the gardens.

Since swimming was out, we decided to start the weekend early, and watch a movie.

Our daughter let us borrow her copy of Advatar.

What a good movie that was - not just the animation, but the actual story too.

I know most people have already seen it - we usually wait until it comes out on DVD, but if you haven’t seen it, it is worth watching.

A bit longer than the typical movie, but it keeps the interest the whole way through.

I can understand why it won so many Academy Awards!

Spode Plates

We still have a few of the pretty blue and white Spode plates left in the inventory.

We have 6 different patterns, and you can find them here.

They are all part of The Blue Room Collection and are Made in England.

The Seasons plate is my favorite, but the Botanical one runs a close second.

They are all 11 inches across and are considered a dinner plate.

But they are too pretty to use for food - I think they make a much nicer wall hanging.

Either way, they are quite beautiful and collectible at the same time!

Into the Wilderness

This is a book that was published by the National Geographic Society in 1978.

The 207 pages have great photos and paintings that delve into America’s past.

As explorers headed west into unknown lands new discoveries were made.

This hardcover book shares those discoveries as only the National Geographic Society can.

And at only $4.99, it’s a great deal for a great read.

In the past I have spent hours searching for websites that I think my customers might enjoy as I do.

Many webmasters do not respond to a link exchange, so I gave up that method long ago.

Most of the ones listed I have dealt with and know they are quality sites run by people who care.

I am very picky - I don’t exchange links just to increase the number that I have listed on the page.

Hosting Updated

We are all set for another two years of keeping KML’s Corner on the internet.

Our hosting was due to expire and we have renewed it with the same host that we have been using for the past two years.

They have been most reliable with only a handful of downtimes during the time we have been with them.

And those few times were just a matter of minutes - nothing serious at all.

Two more years, then we will decide if it is time to retire or keep plugging away with the sales.

Much can happen during that time, we will just have to wait and see!

Listing a Gold Eagle

Just a heads up for my readers.

I will be listing an American Gold Eagle on Ebay this evening.

It is a full ounce of Fine Gold, and it is dated 1999.

These beautiful bullion coins are considered a $50 gold piece and they contain .9167 pure gold.

According to the index that we like to watch, spot gold prices are at $1183 dollars an ounce right now.

With a rise predicted in the gold market prices, this will be a sure value for the future.

Busy Months Ahead

The next two months are going to be very busy around here.

My youngest is graduating this June and we will be having out of state company for a of couple weeks.

That means lots of inventory will be getting listed on Ebay as fixed price items.

Some new items will appear in the store, but we need to move the inventory, and Ebay tends to move quicker.

Lots of prices will be dropping too so we can make more room around the house.

Franklin Mint Silver Plate - 1973 Thanksgiving

We have a new set of collectibles that we will be listing on Ebay over the next week.

We have picked up some beautiful sterling silver plates that are made by the Franklin Mint.

They date back to the 1970’s.

The first one will be listing tonight is a 1973 Thanksgiving plate.

It features a Wild Turkey that is surrounded by pines and grasses, and the details are just beautiful.

It weighs 180 grams which is approximately 5.81 troy ounces of .925 silver.

These highly collectible sterling silver plates will be listed as three day auctions.

Gold Covered Silver Medals

We have been having pretty good luck with the silver rounds that we have listed on ebay over the last couple of weeks.

The two that we have in the store are part of the Masterpieces by Raphael that was minted by the Franklin Mint back in the late 1970’s.

We picked them up several years ago, but we never were able to complete the whole set.

That was the reason for selling the separately, and it seems to have worked out pretty well.

We only have a small number of them left, and when we get down to the last few, I will probably move the ones left in the store over to Ebay also.

Upgraded on Ebay

I finally gave in and upgraded my store on ebay.

The new listing fees go into effect in another week, and supposedly they are not going to charge for the upgrade until next month.

I have also earned the Top Seller status for this month, and I am anxious to see if the sales increase because of this.

Ebay keeps touting that exposure is increased when you reach this level - we shall see.

I have been a powerseller for over 10 years, and an Above Standard seller since that program was introduced last year.

I have been marking down many of the prices in the Ebay store - time to move out the inventory to make way for the new things.

Spring is on the Way

It has been just a glorious weekend weatherwise!

After last weekend, it seemed that spring would never get here, but with temps in the 50’s, this has been a great taste of what is to come.

March is quite fond of delivering a powerful nor’easter as years past can prove.

We will get through it though when it arrives, because spring is truly just around the corner, and the storms won’t keep us down!
