    Father’s Day Friday, May 25th, 2007

Father’s Day is just around the corner and we have the perfect gift for Dad.

Our men’s overnight shaving cases make a great gift for Dads who travel. And if Dad is not a traveler, then one of these cases will keep his shaving and grooming accessories organized and at hand when he needs them.

We have quality leather cases made by Dopp, which is the traditional maker of these travel kits. The Dopps have a built in frame that allows them to stay standing open for easy access.

We also have cases available that are made of nylon/canvas and some others that are made of synthetic leather for those Dads who do not prefer the leather cases.

Our customers in the past have been very happy with their overnight case purchases so be sure to check our inventory today and get Dad a gift that he will use for years to come.

    Only a Caretaker Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Spode PlateWhile watching PBS the other night, I heard a statement made by a collector regarding his collectible items. He was talking about the historical content and sentimental value each item has as he carefully held each treasure.

He considered himself the caretaker of this item, not the owner. He is taking care of it until he can pass it on to his children, which in turn will be caretakers also. He purchased it from a caretaker who also watched over it for many years.

Each collectible has its own history which is preserved with care by the current owner so it can be passed along to the next caretaker to cherish.

We offer many modern collectibles along with a few that have been previously owned and cared for by other who appreciated their value. Take a look at what we have available here for treasures to start or add to your collection. Thanks for looking!

Shipping Costs Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

The cost for shipping through the USPS has gone up again this week.

The priority shipping rates went up over 15%, which I find to be a substantial increase. Good thing we prefer to use UPS for our shipping - the costs are cheaper for the further zones, and the packages are automatically insured.

The change in the international shipping structure has been confusing for many foreign buyers. For many of these customers, English is not their first language, and they are having a hard time understanding the new terms. To make it worse, the less expensive, Surface or Economy shipping, has been done away with. And of course, international rates went up quite a bit also.

We have always tried to keep our shipping costs reasonable for our customers. We charge the actual cost plus a very small handling fee to cover the cost of the box and wrapping supplies. I realize this is just part of an online business, but it makes it hard for the sellers and buyers alike.

Adding Links Thursday, May 10th, 2007

It is hard to find acceptable links to add to my Links page. I was able to add only a few more this morning as I am very picky in what links I want on the site.

I believe the adult, gambling, and credit card/mortgage company links only bring down the sites and I do not want that kind of content on my site, or related to my site through other website links.

I do not like encountering them on other sites, so I will certainly not put them on mine just to up the pagerank for the moment. Quality counts now and in the long run.

SEO Upgrades Sunday, May 6th, 2007

About a month and a half ago I had some SEO upgrades done to the website. My webhost added a couple of new OSCommerce contributions to the site to better utilize my product descriptions for the search engines.

Google feeds were also added which makes it a lot easier to update them to Google instead of manually submitting a spreadsheet that I had to build.

An RSS feed was also added which I believe is a necessity for a website today.

I have seen increased hits which is a good sign. I am giving serious thought to a simple homepage redesign in the next couple of months, as we may be expanding our products and I would need to reflect those changes.

Nothing is definite yet, so I will sit tight until things get ironed out.
